College Is the Best Time to Go

You will never again have this many free weeks and this few obligations. Four windows a year, and help paying for it.

One Mission Students (OMS) is Alabama Baptists’ collegiate sending ministry — it’s the programme that actually sends BCM students, handles logistics and holds the placements. Wherever you see OMS on this page, that’s what it means.
Spring Break

Beach Reach

Each spring the BCM goes on a mission trip somewhere in the world. This year we’re participating in Beach Reach, a Spring Break evangelism project providing free van rides to spring breakers in Panama City Beach, Florida.

Summer

Summer Projects

There are opportunities to serve all over the world through One Mission Students, an Alabama Baptist collegiate sending ministry. Projects run from a week to a whole summer.

Kim’s calling, in her own words, “would somehow involve mobilizing students to do missions.” If you want to go, she is the person to talk to first — before you plan your summer, not after.

Fall Break

Fall Break Trip

Past destinations include Nashville and Clarkston. Dates and destination are announced in September — rather than sit on a “coming soon”, join the list and we’ll email you the day it opens.

Semester Missions

A whole semester away, or a year, through One Mission Students. It affects your degree plan, so it is a conversation to have early rather than late.

The money question

You Don’t Have to Pay for It Yourself

Cost is the reason most students say no to missions. Support raising is how almost everybody who goes actually gets there — and doing it well is part of the point, not a chore around the edges.

  1. Step 1

Write the List Before the Letter

Family, home church, high school teachers, your parents’ friends, people who have supported someone before. Aim for forty names, not four.

  2. Step 2

Send a Real Letter, Not a Link

Say where you’re going, what you’ll do, what it costs, and by when. Ask directly. A vague ask gets a vague answer.

  3. Step 3

Give a Deadline Six Weeks Out

Deposits are due long before the trip. Work backwards from the deposit date, not the departure date.

  4. Step 4

    Follow up Once, Warmly

Most gifts arrive after the second message. That is normal and not rude.

  5. Step 5

    Report Back Afterwards

Photos and a paragraph. The people who funded this trip are the people who will fund the next one.
